Youth Advisory Board
Animal Assisted Happiness believes in youth helping youth and has established a Youth Advisory Board (YAB) of 11 – 18 year olds. YAB’s mission is to engage our youth in soliciting ideas; designing programs; and getting their perspective as we design and develop Animal Assisted Happiness programs, services and our facility. We want to provide education for our youth about children with health and family challenges and provide opportunities for them to develop leadership skills; encourage animal-human relationships; and to participate in giving back at a young age as a foundation for lifelong philanthropy.
Our youth can sign up to participate on one or more YAB teams:
- The Animal Project Team who, through developing a relationship with our animals, facilitates hands on projects and programs; both visits here at our facility with AAH kids and also taking our animals out to organizations and being responsible for the animals’ interactions at those organizations.
- The Community Outreach Team, who serve as evangelists for AAH at local community events and at their respective school.
- The AAH Fundraising Team, who brainstorm ideas and then plan and coordinate fundraising events.
- The Facilities Team, who by observing the animal interactions with our AAH Kids, bring that perspective to help design a warm and inviting facility for all.
To date our YAB has been helped our AAH kids at several picnics at our AAH temporary facility; has walked in the Los Altos Pet Parade with our AAH animals for community outreach; has hosted a Sweets Table as a fundraiser; has visited several schools with our AAH guinea pigs, rabbits and Nigerian dwarf goats; has visited a local Senior Facility three times with our AAH animals; and has helped at all of our more than 25 visits since July 2009. We know that the activities they do today with AAH for children and their families will plant seeds for all they can do tomorrow.
